A factory recertified drive (FCR) is a drive returned to the manufacturer for any number of reasons. After testing, a FCR may have no fault found or an easily correctable error. In addition to being 100% error free, it may have zero power on hours (POH).

Tested As New

An OEM may receive a drive shipment and experience a 5% lot failure test rate, meaning the lot is rejected.  As all drives in the lot fall under the same serial number, individual units cannot be resold as new drives. As such, the manufacturer runs the drive through its new test process. Those that pass the new drive test criteria are recertified as factory recertified hard drives.
